It is the most planted red grape variety in Italy: Sangiovese. But did you know that Sangiovese is also grown outside of its historical birthplace of Italy? Places in the new world, like California are actually producing fun iterations of Sangiovese, like this one from Clos des Amis. But of course, any discussion of Sangiovese would be remiss to skip over one from just outside the gates of Montalcino, specifically Canalino’s Rosso di Toscana. And finally, staying in Tuscany, we move south to the wilds of Maremma, for La Maliosa’s Tarconte sangiovese crafted naturally by a woman winemaker. What differences can you sense in these Sangiovese wines?
