Piovano - Italy

Tucked away just over the hill from the famous Barolo vineyards in Piedmont, Italy, one can find Pietro Piovano and his wife Olfa hand crafting wines. They believe in crafting their Piedmont wines as naturally, using native yeast fermentation when possible.

The third generation of Piovano to work and live in the cellar, Pietro is your classic Piemontese farmer, in touch with his land, and loving his work. His wife Olfa, originally from Tunisia, at first did not know much about wine or farming. However, after years of marriage and watching her husband, she has come to see and love wine as well, working alongside him in the back office.

A charismatic couple, their passion comes through in the glass with their unique yet classic takes on typical Piedmont and Langhe red wines.

Piovano | Piedmont Barbera Natural Red Wine Organic
$25.99

Just imported in first time to the US, a 00 oak aged Barbera natural wine from a vineyard in Pascomonti, in the southern part of the Langhe, in Piedmont, this red wine is the most traditional take on a Barbera red wine from the Langhe: organically farmed, unfiltered, aged in neutral oak with no sulfites added and native yeast fermentation, this is great natural wine version of a Piedmont Barbera.

It has a fruity and spicy bouquet and on the palate has a nice balance of tannins and acidity. Overall, a structured wine with a lingering pleasant finish.

Piovano is located in Bastia Mondovì, Piedmont, Italy.
