Vigna Petrussa - Italy
In Friuli Venezia Giulia, near the Italian border with Slovenia, nestled in the gentle hills encircling the Judrio river valley to form a natural amphitheater, is a beautiful landscape ideal for grape vines. It is in this idyllic setting we find the Vigna Petrussa vineyards. After taking charge as head woman winemaker-vigneron from her mother in 1995, Hilde Petrussa began restyling the vineyard, focusing on high-quality, indigenous grapes cultivated with the guyot training system.
Vigna Petrussa has been lauded as “one of Italy’s best and most under the radar estates” by Ian D’Agata. He has praised the winery, proclaiming Vigna Petrussa wine grower-maker, Hilde Petrussa, as a woman with “great passion for her craft.”
While this is wonderful, we here at VeroVino can’t say we are surprised! We have known for a long time just how delicious Hilde’s and Vigna Petrussa’s wines are, and that they have some of the best Friuli wines!

Like a cook in the kitchen, Hilde Petrussa gives a special touch to each wine. With her Refosco, after gathering the grapes, she lets the tannins mellow out by air drying some the grapes, a process called appassimento used for wines like Amarone, for about 20 days before starting the fermenting process.
